Something Yummy for Saturday

The picture is of my grandmother, Sadie Cole and my aunt, Francis Dawson.  Both were wonderful cooks and I want to share a recipe from each of them.
We called my grandmother Ma. Most of her recipes were submitted to the cookbook by her daughters
Auntie was her sister, Ethyl Underwood Meeker.


1 cup        Milk
¾ cup       Butter
2 ½ cups  Cake flour
5 tsp         Baking Powder
½ tsp Salt
1 tsp  Vanilla
5        Egg whites
Procedure
1   Grease and flour 9 x 13 inch cake pan.  . 
2   Cream butter and sugar thoroughly.
3   Sift flour, salt and baking powder together.
4   Add to butter and sugar mixture alternately with the milk and vanilla.
5   Beat eggs whites until stiff.
6   Fold into first mixture.
7   Pour into pan.
8   Bake: 350°  40 minutes




1  cup  Brown sugar
½ cup  Lard
1  cup  Water
1  cup  Seeded raisins
1  tsp   Cloves
1  tsp   Cinnamon
½ tsp     Nutmeg
1 2/2      cups       Flour
1 tsp      Soda
1 tsp      Baking powder
1 tsp      Salt
1            Egg
Procedure
1   In saucepan place lard, brown sugar, water, raisins, cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
2    Boil 2 minutes.
3    Add dry ingredients.
4   Add egg.
5    Mix.
6   Pour into 8 x 10 pan.
7   Bake: 375°, until done.
Yield: 8 x 10 pan
