The spaciousness of The Elephant Sanctuary's Asia Habitat allows elephants the freedom to choose when and where they wish to be, and with whom. During the warmer months of the year, Asian elephants Shirley and Tarra will usually travel deep into the habitat, away from the Asia Barn. For most of her 11 years in Sanctuary, elephant Misty has chosen to stay nearer the barn. In the summer of 2014, though, that changed when Misty left the barn area for the habitat’s 25-acre lake; she then continued her explorations even into the early fall. For the second consecutive year now, Misty’s demonstrated she is increasingly comfortable with getting to know the wider expanses of her habitat: as recorded here, she managed to meet up with Shirley and Tarra for “social hour.” You can keep up with Misty's travels in real time at www.elephants.com/elecam.
