Found For Friday

Why I fired my Secretary
Last week was my birthday and I didn't feel very
well waking up on that morning.

I went downstairs for breakfast hoping my wife
would be pleasant and say, "Happy Birthday!",
and possibly have a small present for me.

As it turned out, she barely said good morning,
let alone "Happy Birthday."

I thought...

Well, that's marriage for you, but the kids....
They will remember.

My kids came bounding down stairs to breakfast
and didn't say a word.
So when I left for the office, I felt pretty low
and somewhat despondent..

As I walked into my office, my secretary Jane said,
"Good Morning Boss!, and by the way
Happy Birthday! " It felt a little better
that at least someone had remembered.

I worked until one o'clock,
when Jane knocked on my door
and said, "You know,
It's such a beautiful day outside,
and it is your Birthday,
what do you say we go out to lunch,
just you and me." I said, "Thanks, Jane,
that's the greatest thing I've heard all day.
Let's go!"

We went to lunch. But we didn't go
where we normally would go.
She chose instead at a quiet bistro
with a private table. We had two martinis each
and I enjoyed the meal tremendously.

On the way back to the office, Jane said, "You
know, It's such a beautiful day...
We don't need to go straight back to the office,
Do We ?"

I responded, "I guess not.
What do you have in mind?"
She said, "Let's drop by my apartment,
it's just around the corner.."
After arriving at her apartment,
Jane turned to me and said, " Boss, if you don't
mind, I'm going to step into the bedroom
for just a moment. I'll be right back."
"Ok." I nervously replied.

She went into the bedroom and,
after a couple of minutes, she came out
carrying a huge birthday cake ... Followed
by my wife, my kids, and dozens of my friends
and co-workers, all singing "Happy Birthday."

And I just sat there...

On the couch...

Naked.

A woman arrived at the Gates of Heaven. While she was waiting for Saint Peter to greet her, she peeked through the gates. She saw a beautiful banquet table. Sitting all around were her parents and all the other people she had loved and who had died before her. They saw her and began calling greetings to her. "Hello - How are you! We've been waiting for you! Good to see you."

When Saint Peter came by, the woman said to him, "This is such a wonderful place! How do I get in?"

"You have to spell a word," Saint Peter told her.

"Which word?" the woman asked.

"Love."

The woman correctly spelled 'Love' and Saint Peter welcomed her into Heaven.

About a year later, Saint Peter came to the woman and asked her to watch the Gates of Heaven for him that day.

While the woman was guarding the Gates of Heaven, her husband arrived.

"I'm surprised to see you," the woman said. "How have you been?"

"Oh, I've been doing pretty well since you died," her husband told her, " I married the beautiful young nurse who took care of you while you were ill and then I won the multi-state lottery. I sold the little house you and I lived in and bought a huge mansion and my wife and I traveled all around the world. We were on vacation in Cancun and I went water skiing today. I fell and hit my head and here I am. What a bummer! How do I get in?"

"You have to spell a word," the woman told him.
"Which word?" her husband asked.

"Czechoslovakia ."

Moral of the story: Never make a woman angry. There will be hell to pay later!
One day Alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a
tree. 'Which road do I take?' she asked. His response was a question:
'Where do you want to go?' 'I don't know,' Alice answered. 'Then,'
said the cat, 'it doesn't matter.'
Lewis Carroll
1864-1928, writer

A redneck was stopped by a game warden in Central Mississippi recently
with two ice chests full of fish. He was leavin ' a cove well-known for
its fishing.

The game warden asked the man, ' Do you have a license to catch those
fish? '
' Naw, sir ' , replied the redneck. ' I ain't got none of them there
licenses. You must understand, these here are my pet fish. '
' Pet fish? '

' Yeah. Every night, I take these here fish down to the lake and let '
em swim ' round for awhile. Then, when I whistle, they jump right back
into these here ice chests and I take ' em home. '
' That's a bunch of hooey! Fish can't do that. '
The redneck looked at the warden for a moment and then said, ' It's the
truth Mr. Government Man. I'll show ya. It really works. '
' O. K.. ' , said the warden. ' I've got to see this! '
The redneck poured the fish into the lake and stood and waited.

After several minutes, the warden says, ' Well? '
' Well, what? ' , says the redneck.

The warden says, ' When are you going to call them back? '

' Call who back? '

' The FISH ' , replied the warden!
' What fish? ' , replied the redneck.

Moral of the story: We may not be as smart as some city slickers, but we
ain't as dumb as some government employees.
Sick Leave.

I urgently needed a few days off work, but I knew the Boss would not allow me to take leave. I thought that maybe if I acted 'Crazy' then he would tell me to take a few days off.
So, I hung upside-down on the ceiling and made funny noises.
My co-worker (who is blonde) asked me what I was doing.

I told her that I was pretending to be a light bulb, so that the Boss might think I was 'Crazy' and give me a few days off.

A few minutes later the Boss came into the office and asked, 'What in the name of good GOD are you doing?'

I told him I was a light bulb.

He said, 'You are clearly stressed out. Go home and recuperate for a couple of days.' I jumped down and walked out of the office...

When my co-worker (the blonde) followed me, the Boss asked her, ...And where do you think you're going?"

(You're gonna love this......)

She said, "I'm going home too. I can't work in the dark."

I am passing this on to you because it definitely works, and we could all use a little more calmness in our lives. By following

simple advice heard on the Dr. Phil show, you too can find inner peace.

Dr. Phil proclaimes, 'The way to achieve inner peace is to finish all the things you have started and have never finished.

So, I looked around my house to see all the things I started and hadn't finished, and before leaving the house this morning, I finished off a bottle of White Zinfandel, a bottle of Bailey's Irish Cream, a package of Oreos, the remainder of my old Prozac prescription, the rest of the cheesecake, some Doritos, and a box of chocolates.

You have no idea how freaking good I feel right now.

Pass this on to those whom you think might be in need of inner peace.

Movie Making III

It was a short night last night. After working in the Consistory office (and my side job as the still photographer for Iowawood) I set up for the monthly meet and greet at the Consistory. We usually have it in the library but that is being used as a movie set and they were filming on the third floor so we held it in the Grand Banquet room which was actually quite a nice place to have it. This "work" is wearing me out. I go down tomorrow also. I am really having fun. Here is the post about the movies and the link to the pictures I took today. Thanks for stopping by. I now have to finish getting ready for the Stated Meeting of Arcadia Lodge tonight. I would probably give body parts to be able to go to bed and sleep for about 10 hours. But there is no rest for the wicked. and I am as wicked as they come. Hugs, j-bear.

They are still there. It seemed somehow quieter today. Perhaps because I was tired or just getting used to them being there. Quiet professionals doing their jobs and working hard to produce a great product.
They were real flowers and made the 33rd Degree Room smell like a funeral parlor.
Colored gels to provide the right atmosphere for the Pawn Shop.
Lots of people behind the scenes working, waiting, filming.
Mr. Stahl, in focus this time.
They either tolerate or
seem amused by my incessant snapping of photos.
(Much like the members of the Consistory when I shoot an event.)
Actually when I took this shot the filming was waiting for the noon time bell concert from St. John's to end so they could continue with the shoot.
They wanted to know how much longer the bells would be ringing.
Mr. Stahl again. He cleans up nicely.
Looks like he could be going to a funeral (or a Masonic meeting)
He apologized to me for getting in the shot. I was trying to get a shot of him because he is the one who is in charge of the shoot. (Or at least he seems to be. Always says "Rolling" and then it gets super quiet and "Cut" when the scene is finished.

Making Movies II

They were filming on the front steps this morning when I got to the Scottish Rite Masonic Center. I had to wend my way through technicians, grips, juicers, and security guards.
The camera is on a little track so it can slide back and forth without jumps.
There are semi-trucks full of equipment all around the building. However the reason I took this picture is because it shows the Consistory Building reflected in the windows of the building across the street. (American Enterprise Insurance)

The "office" set in the auditorium was not supposed to be a lawyer's office as I guessed yesterday but rather the pawn broker's office. The actor was in place and they were taking levels when I got these shots.
Below is Nick Stahl, one of the stars. I did not get a great shot of him but I did not want to interrupt the proceedings. And it is fuzzy. I will try to get a better shot sometime.
Everybody has a job to do and they are sort of like a swarm all over the place. It is great.

Rolls of tape are among the "necessaries" They use it all over for all sorts of things.
They had a couple of monitors set up where you could see what the camera was seeing.
This was not a real policeman. Real policemen eat dougnuts and this one was eating a granola bar.

The library has become a living room.

You can view all of the pictures I have taken by clicking here. Album 1 Album 2

They do not have a still photographer for the movie so they asked if they could have my pictures. I gave them permission if they put my name in the credits. I was kidding but I think they might do it. I took a couple of little movies of them making movies also and when you watch Album 2 they will play. Thanks for stopping by. ARTYAL. Hugs, Enjoy

Tired fencepost with beautiful color...

This tired and slightly leaning corner fence post, no longer has to help hold the fence tight and straight, but can now just relax and be a lovely focal point to this country still life. The bright yellow flowers are called Rosinweed, and by this time of year often reach six feet in height, and put on a lovely display like you see here. This kind of view, with the tall, tasseled Iowa corn behind it, and the lovely blue skies and clouds, makes for an idyllic image!

Enjoy the moment, or better yet go out into the country on a quiet gravel road, and find your own contemplation spot!

Cross Post - Making Movies

As you know I have been working in the Consistory Office while Don Driscol is on vacation. That does not leave me much time for Blogging but I also do the blog for the Consistory. They are making a movie there and I blogged about it over at the Consistory Blog. I decided to cross post it here.

The Consistory Building is becoming a movie set. Dylan's Wake will begin filming tomorrow at the Consistory. The film (in the vein of Jacob's Ladder meets Good Will Hunting) is the story of a young man who fakes his own death to see if anyone will show up at his funeral. Only to discover that two people show up-- a street junkie who believes our protagonist is an angel who has come to save his life, and his High School sweetheart from ten years before. Their lives will be changed forever in this supernatural film about friendship, romance and redemption.
The various spaces in the Consistory have been/are being transformed into sets for the movie.
Technicians and others are all over the building building and rearranging things. They are a very friendly group and put up with the paparazzi (me) - I imagine that may change tomorrow when the actors come and they start filming. The film stars Rose McGowan from Charmed and Nick Stahl
The classroom is being transformed also. This is Connie who is responsible for set decoration (I think)
The office is going to play a detective's office in the film. I think they will film in there tomorrow.
The 33rd Degree room is a funeral viewing room
Complete with coffin which is being checked out to see if there is a body inside. (There wasn't)

The back of the auditorium looks like it may supposed to become a lawyer's office.
Semi-trailers of equipment is being unloaded and brought into the building. They were surprised that we did not have a freight elevator.
Connie came to the office to get hooked into our WiFii.
The cloak room downstairs has become a pawn shop. This is Bill who has built a wall which will mask the ornate walls of the Consistory and make it look like a plain wall in a Pawn Shop. Brandon and I were both talking to him about becoming a Mason. He is very interested.
And here is another view of the 33rd Degree room with the coffin ready for viewing.
Do you see the ghost?
I will try for more pictures tomorrow.

For Tim and Bill
