Friday Night was Special

 Friday night a Third Degree was held at Specialis Procer Lodge in Des Moines.  This is out new Brother in the middle in the blue shirt and white tie.

 His sponsors, the Master and BJ. We are so happy to have him as a member.

Just a little horseplay.

I went to the new Zombie Burger and Drink Lab afterwards for supper.

It was a little noisy but the burger was great.  Garlic bacon, carmelized onions and feta cheese.  Plus I got the Garlic bacon Blue cheese fries...And the Bun was to die for. Don't worry I only ate about 1/4 of them.

Found For Friday

 Two blondes were sipping their Starbucks when a truck 
went past loaded up with rolls of sod.
  "I'm going to do that when I win the lottery," announced Blonde #1.

 "Do what?" asked Blonde #2.
"Send my lawn out to be mowed."

 MALE SENSITIVITY

The room was full of pregnant women with their partners. The class was in full swing. The instructor was teaching the women how to breathe and was telling the men how to give the necessary assurance to their partners at this stage of the pregnancy.

She said "Ladies, remember that exercise is good for you. Walking is especially beneficial. It strengthens the pelvic muscles and will make delivery that much easier. Just take several stops and stay on a soft surface like grass or a path."

She looked at the men in the room, "and Gentlemen, remember -- You're in this together.  It wouldn't hurt you to go walking with her."

The room suddenly got very quiet as the men absorbed this information.  Then a man at the back of the room slowly raised his hand.

"Yes", answered the Instructor.

"I was just wondering if it would be all right if she carries a golf bag while we walk?"

---- This kind of sensitivity just can't be taught..

Who's the toughest cowboy EVER?

Three cowboys were seated around the campfire out on the lonesome sagebrush prairie and with the pride for which these men were famous; it was a night of bravado, a night of tall tales. Tom, the hand from Wyoming says, "I must be the strongest, meanest, toughest cowboy there is. Why, just the other day, a bull got loose in the corral. It had gored six men before I wrestled it to the ground by the horns with my bare hands and castrated that sucker with my teeth."

Ben, from Idaho, couldn't stand to be bested. "That's nothing, I was walking down the trail yesterday and a 15 foot diamondback rattler slid out from under a rock and made a move for me. I grabbed that bastard with my bare hands, bit off its head, and sucked the poison down in one gulp and didn't even get a belly ache."

 Old Snake River Frank, the cowboy from Texas, remained silent, slowly stirring the campfire coals with his pecker.

The wife has been missing a week now. Police said to prepare for the worst. So I have been to the charity shop to get all her clothes back. 

My daughter asked me for a pet spider for her birthday, so I went to our local pet shop and they were $70!!! Blow this, I thought, I can get one cheaper off the web.

 The government today announced that it is changing its symbol for Parliament from a portcullis to a condom, because it more accurately reflects the government's political stance.

A condom allows for inflation, halts production, destroys the next generation, protects a bunch of dicks, and gives you a sense of security while you're actually being screwed!

Damn, it just doesn't get more accurate than that!

The English language has some wonderfully anthropomorphic collective nouns for the various groups of animals.

We are all familiar with a Herd of cows, a Flock of chickens, a School of fish and a Gaggle of geese.

However, less widely known is a Pride of lions, a Murder of crows (as well as their cousins the rooks and ravens), an Exaltation of doves and, presumably because they look so wise, a Parliament of owls.

Now consider a group of Baboons. They are the loudest, most dangerous, most obnoxious, most viciously aggressive and least intelligent of all primates. And what is the proper collective noun for a group of baboons?

Believe it or not ....... a Congress!

Scottish Rite Event

Last night I drove to Des Moines to go to the Scottish Rite Quarterly meeting.

 Prior to the Quarterly Meeting a meal was served by the Kitchen Krew.  The Hamburgers, Brats, baked Beans and cole slaw supper was delicious and the fellowship was enjoyed by all.


Following supper the members retired to the Classroom for the Quarterly meeting.  


Master of Kadosh, Shane Harshbarger opened the meeting with the usual proclamation followed by prayer and 
the Pledge of Allegiance.


Reports from the Secretary, Treasurer, Lighting crew were received.


     

 

 

 

 Following the meeting Master of Kadosh Harshbarger gave an interesting presentation on the first three degrees of Freemasonry as written by Albert Pike and exemplified by some of the Southern Scottish Rite Lodges.

 The presentation was extremely interesting and pointed out the many differences between the Pike degrees and the first three degrees which are a part of American Grand Lodges.

I had an enjoyable evening and it was good to get out of the house.

A New (to me) Author

My days and nights seem to be turned around.  I have not been sleeping well so I wake up and can't go back to sleep. Then in the daytime I nap  It is not conducive to being rested and productive.  It does however give me time to read. 


 I recently discovered Elizabeth Chadwick, an English author,  who writes historical novels with strong women as the main characters.  The first one I read was Lady of the English which is about two English Queens Matilda, (Daughter of Henry I and Mother of Henry II) and her stepmother Adeliza (Henry's widowed Queen.  Both women are "Lady of the English" a title given to England's Queen.


The novel is a unique form of learning about history.  I enjoy the stories and being able to imagine life as it was lived in earlier times.  They (the novels) give me a sense of 'being there" and actually participating in history.  I realize that it is historical fiction but it does give me insights into the time.  I enjoy it.  I can use my imagination and it has always been a genre which I like. 


The thing I enjoyed about Lady of the English is how these two women were able to play out on History and place Matilda's son Henry II on the throne after it had been usurped by Stephen.  Women were not allowed to participate in government and for these women to work behind the scenes to accomplish what they accomplished was something most of the HIStory books ignore.  That is another reason I find historical fiction worthwhile because if fills gaps in my knowledge.

Rant

I find some print incredibly hard to read.  When a Web site uses too small a font it is hard on my older eyes.  I have to enlarge the print manually.  I have to embiggen it so that I can read it.

Also there are Blogs who use white ink on a black background.  It may be sexy but again very hard to read.  That is why I read most blogs on a reader which puts everything in a nice size and black on white.




I miss out on some of the sidebar things on the blogs on the reader but I can go to them once in awhile and look them over.


The new Iowa Grand Lodge Web Site is a great site but unfortunately for my eyes it uses a font that is too small for me to comfortably read.  I have complained about it a couple of times.  I guess that there is not much I can do other than that but I won't go there much unless they can do something about it.  Too bad because it has a lot of good information there.


I have Eastern Star Tonight, Scottish Rite tomorrow and Specialis Procer Degree work on Friday.  There is a reception on Saturday but I really think that my week will be so full that I will need to recuperate on Saturday....maybe even Sunday.  Have a great week.  Thanks for stopping by.  Hugs.
