Fall is on its way! Photos by Bob Kelly

Fall is on its way!  The summer profusion of colorful blooms will continue until we have a killing frost, maybe within the first two weeks of October.

While shooting Sunday near Bondurant, I was surprised and pleased to see the lovely blend of greens, yellow, orange, and red coloring with ripe corn and bean fields in the background.

The pasture grasses are turning golden in some places and this hillside scene was peaceful as the cows enjoyed the early fall day.

At the Neal Smith Natural Prairie Preserve, this bull buffalo who was full of grasses he had eaten was down among the Big Bluestem grasses and the yellow prairie flowers digesting his salad.  I liked it that he was looking up at me, showing his big horns as well.

The sepia photo is of a rear wheel of a very old tractor from the early 1900s.  These iron cogs surely got traction as they went through the field.

One farmer who raises pumpkins had a colorful array of them spread out which I could not resist.  The fall season has already started and will continue until it snows I guess, but here's hoping that is a long way off.
