My trip to the Dentist.

One of my Facebook friends had this link and picture posted this morning. It was timely as I had a dentist appointment this morning.  The difference being is that the teeth they are "bridging" for me are on the top.

My dentist was interested in this example of 4000 year old dentistry.

I took some pictures of today's proceedings.  I was in the chair about an hour and a half.  Two fillings and they also took impressions to send in to the lab.

I asked Dr. G how he decided to become a dentist. His sister married a dentist and he decided to switch from pre-med to dentistry.  And it allows him to  exercise his artistic ability. He actually "sculpts" the tooth as he works with it so that it looks natural.

I told him that I suspected that because it felt like he was sculpting when he was working on them.
One of the machines they use I call the "Jesus" machine because they say that it is for "curing".  It shines a special light on the tooth and hardens it.  Dr. G said that it was because they no longer use epoxy material but rather use a phototrophic (?) material.  So after he sculpts it K (dental assistant) cures it with her machine. It shines a bright blue light which they told me not to look at.

She (K) is really good.  She and Dr. G never have to talk. She reads his mind and has the correct tool there ready to place in his hand. They occasionally exchange a word or two but basically except for the scraping and drilling and occasional yelps from me (just kidding) it is a pretty silent event.

I enjoy going to the dentist.  All in all, except for what it is costing me I am very pleased with the whole experience.  They are nice people and I enjoy the time I spend with them..{I did have to have a discussion with them however.  I asked him if Faux (Fox) news paid him money to have them on the TV all the time.  I always have to ask to have it turned off.  I mentioned that I had switched garages for my car because the owner always had Fox News playing.  (Actually I do not know why the TV has to be playing in every waiting room anyway.)  I think that the next time the problem will be resolved... Thanks K. }  Oh, one more thing.  Last time I was there I had my teeth cleaned by a very pregnant lady.  Turns out she was K's sister and she had her baby. A little boy.  Good news.  I am so glad the sun was setting and I met Dr. C.

OK

I went to the dentist this morning.  I am now lighter by 4 teeth.  John made me these pictures.  If I were on Facebook I might use the one on the left as my profile picture and post the other one but I won't.

Eventually I shall probably go back to posting but I won't like it.

They came out easy so the bill was reduced from what they thought it was going to be.  I accused them of being cheap dates.  I really do like them.  I also accused them of having mental telepathy. Kylie has everything ready for him and hands it to him before he even has to ask.  Silent communication and everything runs smooth as silk.  That is what happens when you work together for 11 years.  Dr. Craig said he "stole" her from his wife who is the pediatric dentist on the other side of the building.  I am so grateful that the universe "nudged" to stop and visit with him.  Everybody should have a dentist who drives a Corvette.
My mouth is very sore and he won't let me take aspirin and I can't take the other stuff or it messes with my kidneys.  So I had chili for supper and have a glass of ice water to keep it more comfortable.  This too will pass.

Taylor and Danielle
I have mentioned Taylor Morris previously on my Blog.  Taylor is the young man who stepped on a mine in Afghanistan and lost his legs as well as his right hand and left arm at the elbow.  I have been following his recovery (which is phenomenal through his Caring Bridge account.

They have set up a web site where you can go and follow his story and even see some videos of him and learn about the process of being fitted with new legs.  There are a lot of us following him.  I noticed on his counter that he has over 120,000 hits on the blog and so I hope you will go over and follow his story at this link.  I also added a link in my sidebar.
Today was also the day I did something I have been putting off for a long time. I went to the dentist.  I won't go into details of why it has been so long but it has and when fillings began to fall out and one tooth completely broke off I began to feel that I should go to see a dentist.  The thing was I am fussy about who I see as I really prefer to like and know the person who is rummaging around inside my mouth.

I asked around about dentists from time to time but I really hate going to the dentist so I put it off..  The other day I left Lodge early and went home and on the way I pulled off the road to take a picture of the sunset.  I got my pictures and as I left I spotted this little Corvette which proceeded to do a U-turn and pull up in front of the dentist's office which was next to my foot doctor's place.  I saw a man get out of the car and go to the front door so I pulled up behind him and waited for him to come out.  I figured it would not take to long as he was parked in a no parking spot.

So to make a long story short when he came out I introduced myself and visited with him, liked him immediately, and decided that the universe had nudged me to find a dentist. The appointment was made and today was the day.  The good news is that a lot of my teeth are in good shape and can be saved.  The bad news is that the work is going to cost around 5K.  Fortunately I can spread it out over several months and manage to pay for it without having to get into my TSA.  So I guess I won't be taking any trips for awhile and will be blogging about my mouth in the future.  Such fun.

Miles is over for a visit and he and Molly are getting along fine.  She will miss him but Friday we go up to Mason City to meet her new brother. Watch this space for further developments.  Thanks for stopping by. Hugs, j
