Max

First of all thanks to Madpriest for putting Max on his prayer list.

I talked to the vet this afternoon. Max is not much improved. Still not eating. His blood work shows little improvement on his kidney values and his red blood cells are low. He has diarrhea. She has him on IV to increase his hydration and says he is also on antibiotics. He is alert and watches things and seems to be in no pain. He is probably going to stay the week-end. Thanks to everyone for holding him in the "white light" Hugs, j

Ten Word Challenge : blind panic, apartment, fleas, soap operas, Cajun cooking, free and easy, legal, sangria, public school, new

For the mini challenge: class, calendar, keeping secrets, boring, fashion

Sallyie came in dressed to the nines. She pirouetted around and said,
"Look Phrog, the latest
fashion."
Phrog glanced up and said, "
Boring." Sallyie burst into tears and ran from the room.
"Well," thought Phrog, "it is not as if I was
keeping secrets. I must get up and go after her. Sometime. I will put it on my calendar. In the meantime I must find a girl friend with more class. That outfit was too trailer trash and it wasn't even new."

Saydie came in the room and said, "Phrog, you must do something about the way you treat my sister. She only has a public school education after all and sometimes she drinks way too much sangria. It is legal for her to dress as she pleases and you know she is free and easy about things and you should treat her better. Now about supper. I was thinking about Cajun cooking and we can eat after I watch my soap operas. Oh, yes and by the way this place is infested with fleas."

Phrog leaped to his feet and rushed from the
apartment in a blind panic for he was allergic to fleas and did not want to be around them. "I must call my dragon friends to come over and exterminate them, he thought. They are the most effective in the business."

Next Week's Ten Word Challenge will be: records, impulsive, really cool, bread crumbs, angels, Sponge Bob, magical moment, back and forth, suffering, good fences make good neighbors

For the mini challenge: side effects are generally mild, clingy, rooster, samples, curiosity

Found for Friday

I took my dad to the mall the other day to buy some
new shoes (he is 92). We decided to grab a bite at the
food court. I noticed he was watching a teenager sitting
next to him. The teenager had spiked hair in all different
colors: Green, red, orange, and blue. My dad kept staring at
him. The teenager would look and find him staring every time.

When the teenager had had enough, he sarcastically asked,
'What's the matter old man, never done anything wild
in your life?'

Knowing my Dad, I quickly swallowed my food so I would not choke on his response,

knowing he would have a good one, and in classic style he did not bat an eye in his reply.

'Got drunk once and had sex with a peacock. I was just wondering if you were my son.'

If you can understand when your loved ones are too busy to give you any time,

If you can take criticism and blame without resentment ,

And you thought I was going to get all spiritual.
Yesterday I had a flat tire on the interstate. So I eased my car over to the shoulder of the road, carefully got out of the car and opened the trunk.

I took out 2 cardboard men, unfolded them and stood them at the rear of my car facing oncoming traffic.

They look so lifelike you wouldn't believe! They are in trench coats, exposing their nude bodies and private parts to the approaching drivers.

I started to change my tire, and to my surprise, cars started slowing down looking at my lifelike men.

And of course, traffic started backing up.. Everybody was tooting their horns and waving like crazy.

It wasn't long before a state trooper pulled up behind me.

He got out of his car and started walking towards me.

I could tell he was not a happy camper!

 "What's going on here? "

"My car has a flat tire," I said calmly.

“Well, what the hell are those obscene cardboard men doing here by the road?"

I couldn't believe that he didn't know. So I told him,

"Hello-O-O-O-O-O, those are my emergency flashers!"

Giving Up Wine

I was walking down the street when I was accosted by a particularly dirty and shabby-looking homeless woman who asked me for a couple of dollars for dinner.

I took out my wallet, got out ten dollars and asked, 'If I give you this money, will you buy wine with it instead of dinner?'

'No, I had to stop drinking years ago', the homeless woman told me.

'Will you use it to go shopping instead of buying food?' I asked.

'No, I don't waste time shopping,' the homeless woman said. 'I need to spend all my time trying to stay alive.'

'Will you spend this on a beauty salon instead of food?' I asked...

'Are you NUTS!' replied the homeless woman. I haven't had my hair done in 20 years!'

'Well' I said, 'I'm not going to give you the money... Instead, I'm going to take you out for dinner with my husband and me tonight.'

The homeless Woman was shocked. 'Won't your husband be furious with you for doing that? I know I'm dirty, and I probably smell pretty disgusting.'

I said, 'That's okay. It's important for him to see what a woman looks like after she has given up shopping, hair appointments, and wine.'

On the first day, God created the dog and said: 'Sit all day by the door of your house and bark at anyone who comes in or walks past. For this, I will give you a life span of twenty years.'

The dog said: 'That's a long time to be barking. How about only ten years and I'll give you back the other ten?'

So God agreed.

On the second day, God created the monkey and said: 'Entertain people, do tricks, and make them laugh. For this, I'll give you a twenty-year life span.'

The monkey said: 'Monkey tricks for twenty years? That's a pretty long time to perform. How about I give you back ten like the Dog did?'

And God agreed.

On the third day, God created the cow and said:

'You must go into the field with the farmer all day long and suffer under the sun, have calves and give milk to support the farmer's family. For this, I will give you a life span of sixty years.'

The cow said: 'That's kind of a tough life you want me to live for sixty years.. How about twenty and I'll give back the other forty?'

And God agreed again.

On the fourth day, God created humans and said: 'Eat, sleep, play, marry and enjoy your life. For this, I'll give you twenty years.'

But the human said: 'Only twenty years? Could you possibly give me my twenty, the forty the cow gave back, the ten the monkey gave back, and the ten the dog gave back; that makes eighty, okay?'

'Okay,' said God, 'You asked for it.'

So that is why for our first twenty years we eat, sleep, play and enjoy ourselves. For the next forty years we slave in the sun to support our family.... For the next ten years we do monkey tricks to entertain the grandchildren. . And for the last ten years we sit on the front porch and bark at everyone.

Life has now been explained to you.

There is no need to thank me for this valuable information. I'm doing it as

a public service.

Max and a Rant

Max needs some good thoughts. He has been lethargic and losing weight (about 10 pounds in the last month.) I took him up to the vet yesterday. He is still there. He seems to have a problem with his kidney. He is dehydrated and they are giving him an IV to hydrate him. They aren't sure what the cause is. He had a canine tooth pulled in June and it seems to have been since then that this has happened.

They called this morning and said they are trying to get him to eat and that they think he will be able to come home on a kidney diet and maybe with medicine. It is lonely around here. Bailey misses his brother and Jon and I do too. So if you can spare some good thoughts for him it will be appreciated. Max belongs to Jon and he lives at my house and he is nuts about my sister also. They are also going to x-ray him to see what else might be happening.

I picked up Trevor at the airport this morning. He is here from New York to visit his girlfriend who just got back from her home in China. It was good to see him. We had breakfast at Perkins and then I brought him to Ames. We are hoping to go to Black Market Pizza while he is here.

I was driving in Des Moines on Tuesday and heading east on University. I was coming up to make a turn to go to the gas station. (Gas is about 10 cents a gallon cheaper in Des Moines so I get my gas when I am down there.) Some woman in a van with a "Baby on Board" sign was in the third lane over and turned across two lanes to get into the turn lane and then turned and immediately turned to the gas station. She pulled up to the first pump and stopped. (forget about the fact that there were two open pumps ahead of her) and got out to go in to get the gas pump started. (If there was a Baby on Board she left him or her unattended in the van) all the time stuffing a sandwich in her mouth and talking on a cell phone. She came out put about two dollars worth of gas in her van and then sped out of her place without regard to anyone around her. - There I got that out of my system.

Then someone got my goat on Facebook by writing:
"barney frank is an idiot he was one of the senators that caused the mortgage crisis and now they cant take critisisim on the government run health care oh i am sorry there calling it coop this week. its a bad idea and the most recent poll has 54%of people think they shouldent do any thing."
You know this type of person are like the ones who are going out to disrupt the Town Hall meetings which Representatives and Seators are holding. They are really good examples of the Republican "No Child Left Behind" Educational System.

Barney Frank is not a Senator. And "I" referring to one's self is capitalized. Can't needs an apostrophe to show the missing letter. There should have been they're. (I used to make my students write the sentence "They're going to put their apples over there." every time they misused the word.

Someone later commented that there was no difference between Representatives and Senators and it didn't matter whether or not you spelled things correctly. I disagree with that and if you want you can read a fine essay about it here. The big mouthed person in the picture probably has no idea that she is totally using the wrong word on her sign.

She obviously is not Thomas Jefferson's daughter who received this advice from her father:

"Take care that you never spell a word wrong. Always before you write a word, consider how it is spelled, and, if you do not remember, turn to a dictionary."
So my advice is:

Go back to school. Use spell check and make sure to have someone proofread.

Oh and the poll cited. - Check your facts!

Fifty-eight percent of respondents said "extremely important." Nineteen said "quite important": a total of 77 percent. The rest of respondents said the choice of a public option was not important or weren't sure.
That would only be 23% that said it wasn't important. The date of the poll - August 20. And Co-op not coop. Coop is where you keep chickens...

Now, I have that off my chest. So, as always, thanks for stopping by. Hugs, j

Quote for Today

The biggest challenge that faces all of the York Rite bodies is keeping members participating. The York Rite arguably has some of the best written, and most affecting degrees in Masonry. But once the degrees are conferred, we all have to make damn sure there's a reason for men to come back next month. And jamming them into an officer's chair is NOT the way to do it. Unique, entertaining, interesting programming, table meetings, speakers, papers, historical presentations, road trips, cooperation between chapters for degree conferrals—we need to try everything we possibly can

Uhh Chris, This isn't just a challenge for York Rite bodies..You could say that about all of Masonry.

Barney Frank

This is all over the Internets today.

I met Mr. Frank once. I am very impressed that he answered this woman in this manner. I have been watching the uncivility (is there such a word?) of these people who have been sent out to disrupt and destroy the dialogue which our congress people have been trying to have with their constituents. There are just a very few of them The vast majority of Americans want the democrats to do what we elected them to do. Break the backs of the large Pharmas and Corporations and I for one am pleased that Mr. Frank stood up to this stupid person. Comparing Obama to Hitler is STUPID and IGNORANT and OFFENSIVE. You go gettem' Barney, I wish more of your collegues would do the same.

Oh yes and PS. I am very pleased to hear that Glenn Beck is loosing advertisers right and left. He too is OFFENSIVE.
