The old expression above was appropriate back in the 1930s and 1940s, but since then the quality of the hybrid corn seed has improved, as have technologies related to soil preparation, usage of equipment, and fertilizers. The new expression for at least central Iowa this year is….HEAD High by the 4th of July! This corn is tasseling and is easily six fee tall to the top of the tassel. It looks like a bumper crop in Iowa this fall.
