Virtue and Moir win Gold

Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir have won Canada's first Olympic ice dance gold medal. Americans Meryl Davis and Charlie White took home the Silver.

Congratulations

And by the way watching you sing your national anthem was very exciting and emotional.

Congratulations (Oh, I already said that.)

They skated so beautifully.

Personally I liked Davis and White's performance better because it was faster and more dynamic. Virtue and Moir's dance seemed more boooooring. However, I only know what I like and certainly have absolutely no qualifications to judge skating. And Tessa is just too beautiful to not cheer for. Plus, Canada is right next door. You can even see it from some place in Minnesota.

But, I really like the article in the Wall Street journal yesterday complaining about showing ice dancing on NBC during prime time, and pushing the US vs canada HOCKEY game off to cable. After all, HOCKEY is important. It is a real sport. The quotes in the WSJ say it all:

"It's hard to imagine Evgeni Plushenko sliding to block a shot coming at 115 miles per hour."

"When hockey players are mad at someone, they fight, it's over. No need for a media catfight or whining about how you're really better than the guy who beat you."

Hockey music? Joey Satriani. Lady gaga. The love theme from 'Lethal Weapon 3.' "

"Ice dancers are failed pairs skaters, who are failed indiviual figure skaters, who are failed hockey players."

"In figure skating, judges decide who wins. In hockey, judges set the bail."

Personally, I enjoyed the ice dancing. I enjoyed it much more than the pairs skating. The pairs skating seemed really boring this year, much more so that usual years. I'm not sure why. But hockey is always exciting. Almost as exciting as the short track ice racing.

I find ice dancing and pairs skating more enjoyable to watch than singles because there is more variety in their skating and not an endless series of jumps and lead ins to jumps.

And Scott Hamilton and Company are not talking all the way through the program. Just nice and pleasant to watch.
