It is ok though, because it is her own fur! Little Idgie was rescued in September by an HUA volunteer who was working on a reservation near South Dakota. Idgie's body was riddled with mange
. The volunteer found her under a laundry basket with kids beating on the basket as she cowered in fear and adults throwing lit cigarettes at her until she screamed. The volunteer, being strong in her convictions, decided she was not leaving without this little pup. Much conversation took place about the scene she had witnessed, and soon Idgie was on her way to HUA.

It has taken several months of medication and good nutrition for Idgie's fur to grow back in. She is still working on a couple of little patches on her paws and one spot on her face, but soon her transformation will be complete. It has also taken time to teach Idgie to no longer fear people. But today, Christmas Day, Idgie is celebrating her new beautiful fur coat and her awesome new life. She is no longer afraid of people. When she flops on her back when people approach now it isn't because she is cowering in fear. It is because she knows thattummy rubbing is about to take place and she wants to be ready! Her beagle pals at HUA think that her big antenna ears look funny, but they have taken her under their wing anyway, teaching her to run and play and wrestle like a pup should. She wags her tail non-stop when people are near and she delights in jumping up to give them kisses.
Idgie just wanted to pop in and let you know that she will be having a very Merry Christmas thanks to Hearts United for Animals supporters who make being able to care for her possible. She would also like you to know that she will soon be looking for a forever home where she will be treated like a beautiful little princess and where the people will continue to play fun puppy games with her and love her with all of their hearts. Please write to tera@hua.org if you are interested in adopting Idgie.
