These are the Bachelor Maids. A club of girls in early (1895) Ames. Four of my great-aunts were in this picture. The picture was taken April 13, 1902.
On the left center is Ethelyn Underwood. She was my grandmother's sister and marred Warren Meeker who was a longtime school board member from who Meeker School is named.
Next is Inis Hunter Grove whose husband gave the park to honor her memory), then there are three of my great aunts next.
Kate McMichael was nicknamed Kate "Mike". She was married to my grandfather's brother Lew who was a builder.
The next one is also named Kate (really Catherine) Cole. She was not married and lived in her father's house which today stands in the Assembly of God Church. The next one was Jessie Cole her sister who was married and lived somewhere other than Ames.
In no particular order the other members of the club were: Minnie Perkins, Nettie Bauyr (?) Jessie Stuekilegra (?), Mildred Graham and Essa Selby
And is is one of the Parties which they held.
