Jefferson is OUT of History.

In Texas.....They are doing this to our history.

Unfortunately these text books will then be sold all over the rest of the country because Texas is so large they set the "standard" for textbooks all over the U.S. Isn't anybody going to stand up to this travesty?

I vote we give Texas back to Mexico. We get most of our oil and natural gas from Canada now anyway so it's not like we would lose anything (except for 4 of the Big 12 schools).

Its funny that they termed the US a Constitutional Republic (vs Democratic Gov't) but they removed the author of our Constitution from the history books.

The saddest thing is that Texas has been doing this almost forever (so have a few other states), and their actions have influenced the teaching of social studies and science adversely nation-wide. That's one of the reasons I stopped teaching at the K-12 level.

It's more than a little ironic that these witch-hunters should focus on Jefferson, who was, in fact, a Deist, rather than a Christian, and a "Democrat" rather than a Whig or some other partisan. The irony comes with the fact that Jefferson is probably the most-quoted (usually out of context) of the "founding fathers" by the rabid far-right-wingers.
