New Phone?

I am in the market for a new phone. I want a new one, I currently am with Sprint and they would not let me upgrade about 6 months ago, I may stay with them but I feel no loyalty to them because they wouldn't even talk to me and the person (jerk) who waited on me when I was in the Sprint store was more interested in his personal phone call and was quite dismissive - Just said "You aren't eligible for an upgrade until March and then he walked away from me. So my question is this - What cell phone do you use and what service do you have? Are you pleased with it. I want to be able to text and receive and send e-mail on the phone and I do not want to spend an arm and a leg on it. The only advantage I see to Sprint is the 10% discount I get for having been a teacher. So what do you think.

It does not have to be as capable as the phone in the movie Bob Kelly sent me but the self destruct button would be a fun thing to have.

I used US Cellular for quite a few years, but left them because there was no coverage at my house. At first, I never used my cell phone at home, but that became more and more needeed. They have since filled that lack of coverage, but i am gone.

I had a work phone through Sprint. It is currently in my desk drawer because I got tired of no coverage, even if the company was paying for it.

I use Verizon. Their coverage is MUCH better than either US Cellular or Sprint. I'm not that hung up on having a bigger map than somebody else, but I get around the country quite a bit and my Verizon phone just works everywhere I go. I got the new Blackberry Tour, which I absolutely love.

Now Verizon isn't the cheapest plan. I get a 125 discount because of my employer, but I still pay $89 a month for a lot of minutes of talking, and unlimited email and internet access. I don't pay for the texint plan, since I don't text much. I'd rather send an email. But it does include the FREE blackberry text function which works great with anyone else who has a blackberry. It also has all the internet based IM tools, which I don't use.

I'm sure some of the iPhone users will rave about their AT&T service. I have no personal experience to either reinforce or refute that. I will admit the iPhone is great (I love my iPod touch) but I do not like Apples business model which is based on screw the customer at every opportunity. And don't worry about what the customers want, they will learn to like what we sell.

Jay;

I have had excellent luck with Verizon. Had to fire U.S. Cellular once for poor service and creative phone bills. Verizon has treated me like a valued customer.

Had nothing but problems with Verizion. Love my iPhone, but don't care for at&t that much either. They all suck.

I have had the best luck with Verizon too. Their coverage is great and their customer service has always bent over backwards. I have the Samsung Glyde. It has both a touch screen and Qwerty keyboard. My only complaint is that I should have bought a protector or case for it as I gouged the touch screen by carrying it in my pocket.

Jay, I have Verizon also and have to agree with Don's comments. I have traveled to just about every corner of the country for work, and have never had a problem with coverage. I use an LG brand Voyager phone. It has a touch screen on the front and it will flip open to a full qwerty style keyboard inside. The keyboard is larger than a blackberry's which is a plus for me since I was convinced that my big fingers would never be able to type on a blackberry. Don's comments about cost are also in line with my own experiences. When my contract renews, I will probably downgrade a bit since I don't use many of the features.
