Aging Barn Photos by Bob Kelly

Another old barn loaded with history and character can be found north east of Dawson, which is a tiny town about six miles west of Perry. Dawson was once much larger back in the coal mining days, but with the end of the mining here and in central Iowa, the population moved on.

This barn sits empty, but structurally strong, with lots of ventilation through its sides, ends, and roof! I particularly liked its texture and the patina on the hingers and door latches. Barns like this will not be with us much longer, so if you see one…..smile, wave, or have a nostalgic thought!
