Fall in Iowa is wonderful, with sunny skies, brisk morning temperatures that moderate to warm and comfortable, and animals enjoying their last few months before they prepare for a cold winter.
The corn harvest varied in yields depending on rainfall that was received. This combine is shooting out a big stream of corn from its internal grain bin on the top of the combine, and into an awaiting wagon.Seeing baby pigs is FUN! These little porkers were enjoying their time with Mom in the afternoon sun.
These young pheasants owned the middle of the gravel road and were unafraid as I slowly approached them. After I took this photo these four and another half dozen near them, all flew into the corn field, surprising me….for I was not expecting they could fly!
The darker grass waterways provide a drainage path for water as it flows from the field. After harvest it makes a gently curving pattern that is very beautiful.
Corn stalks are bailed into huge and heavy round bales, wrapped in plastic and stored for bedding to be used during the winter. Until they are picked up they create an interesting design pattern across the field.
This proud and tired barn stands waiting for someone to use and appreciate it, and if it could, I am sure it would remember more productive and exciting times, when it was being fully used. For now it is a sentinel of time, resting in place.
These horses struck a dramatic pose as they were silhouetted against the afternoon sky, leisurely eating grass from the top of a hill.

I become more 'missing of the Midwest" - because I like the seasons.
