Scenes from Benton County, Iowa - Photos and Text by Bob Kelly

Wednesday I passed through Vinton, Iowa on my way from Marion back to Ames.  The stately Benton County Courthouse was calling for a portrait, as was the antique but punctual clock in front of a bank.  The large mural depicts a scene that might have occurred on a lake in Minne Estema Park, in 1908. The Iowa towns are RICH with history and nostalgia!

Hello Iowa fan...

I have been through Rockwell City many years ago, but have not seen its courthouse. I just Googled it, and can see it looks very nice as well. I will add it to my MUST SEE list as I move around the state. When I have it I will send to Jay for posting here. Thanks for the tip...try to keep cool, although I know that is hard where you live.

Cheers...

Well, Bob ... if you are headed to Rockwell City you might as well head to Lake City and take photos of the city square gazebo, the Carnegie Library, and head out to Rainbow for a picture of the historic bridge. I know some people who might even give you lunch and a scenic view off of their river deck to take even more photos!!! Happy fourth!
