Thought for Today

Once a government is committed to the principle of silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go, and that is down the path of increasingly repressive measures, until it becomes a source of terror to all its citizens and creates a country where everyone lives in fear
. -Harry S. Truman, 33rd US president (1884-1972)

A great quote from a great Democratic president.

No question about the greatness of Harry Truman. The reasons for his greatness are transparent: he was completely honest, his word was his bond, and he despised prejudicial treatment of any human being. No presidential plane when he left office, and no secret service. He and Bess got in the car and drove home. When he left this world in 1972, his major asset was his home in Independence, MO, a house Bess inherited from her family.

There are some striking lessons for the present election to be gained from studying Pres. Truman's life.

A MAN of the people, Pres. Truman UNDERSTOOD the people--even in ways FDR never could.

That doesn't even include how seriously Trumen took his Masonic obligations, including his rise to being Grand Master of Masons in Missouri.
