Enjoy one of the last autumn wild flowers of Iowa! These Wild Asters were found just east of Nevada along Highway 30 in a large triangular field between the four lane divided highway 30, and its on ramp. There were literally thousands of them in shades from light pink, rose, and lavender, to dark purple. Feasting on the nectar were many dozens of Monarch and Painted Lady butterflies. This fall flower is common along Iowa roadsides. Watch for it and enjoy the discovery!
Wild Asters
In the spring I asked the daisies
If his words were true,
And the clever, clear-eyed daisies
Always knew.
Now the fields are brown and barren,
Bitter autumn blows,
And of all the stupid asters
Not one knows.
