Rural Iowa Variety - Photos and Text by Bob Kelly

My first shot was in Ames, and all the rest were in rural Story and Hamilton counties.  I never cease to be amazed at what is there, if you are lucky enough to see it.  Here are ten of the best images of the day.  Enjoy!
This distinctive decoration has been on a building at Kellogg and Main for nearly fifty years.  In fact there are several of them placed all across the west side of this building facing Kellog Avenue.  I have always admired the simple corn motif, and today on an overcast day, the shadows were minimal, and this is how it looked, today in black and white.  Next time you Ames folks drive down Kellogg....take a look!
This corn crib is silently recalling days gone by, while surrounded by a corn field!
This distinctive prairie home still remains a sentinel of time in the land of corn!
Soybeans are looking good with plenty of rain and sunshine.
This stalwart fence post was a crucial corner support structure on a 1900s  farm.
An old cowboy boot resting atop a fence post....how a-boot that?
These pink and blue delphinium wildflowers make a road ditch spectacular.
Wild coreopsis blooms are bright and beautiful!  A white delphinium peeks through the color.
An elegant Great Blue Heron comes in for a landing.
A proud pair of Mom and Dad Trumpeter Swans escort their fuzzy cygnet out for a swim.
