Lighted Sculptural Columns on Highway 30 - Photos by Bob Kelly

As one goes east on highway 30 and turns onto Interstate I-35 or proceeds easterly in highway 30, you encounter some sculptural columns along both sides of the road.  They are lit up at night and are very colorful as they create the anchor point of a highway entryway enhancement along highway 30, signaling an entrance into the Ames city limits.  The lighted sculptural columns are on both sides of highway 30 so either east or west bound traffic can see them.  The next time you are out at night, head down highway 30 towards the interstate and view them as you pass under the bridge, go a bit further and safely turn around and come back from the east, heading into the city.  You will see their full nighttime effect.  For more about them and the artist who created them click here.  (Click on pictures to enlarge)
