These rolls are wonderful. Not as convenient as the ones you get out of the tubes in the refrigerator section of the grocery store. And this is not a recipe for someone who does not know how to cook as you have to know what you are doing.
There wasn't any "how to"
information in the copy of "Ma's" recipe we found. "Ma"
also used this for cinnamon rolls.
1 compressed Yeast cake
1 T Sugar
1 cup Milk, lukewarm
1/2 scant
cup Shortening

1/2 scant
cup Sugar
3 well
beaten Eggs
1/2 tsp Salt
4 cups Flour

Procedure

Grease tins (?) the recipe didn't say what kind
of tins.

In a large bowl mix yeast cake, sugar and milk.

Stir until liquid.

Add lukewarm milk.

Add shortening, sugar, eggs, salt, and flour.
"Makes a soft dough but stiff enough to knead.

Let rise.

Knead a little.

Cut in half.

Roll each piece as nearly round as possible,
about ¼ inches in thickness.

Cut like a pie into 16 pieces.

Beginning at wide end roll up each roll towards
the small end.

Put in a buttered tins.

Bake.
Oven Temperature: 375°F
