I went to the store to mail some letters tonight and pick up a couple of things. As I got out of the car I saw this.
I don't know if the driver of this car was just unconscious or just didn't care. But folks the yellow lines mean Don't Park Here.
They are there to help the handicapped drivers who have vans and have to put down a ramp and wheel in and out of their vehicles. I know because my sister has a van with a ramp. It is pretty slick when it works. She can park her car, open the door, let down the ramp and transfer from the driver's seat and wheel out of the car. But she needs room to do so and that is the reason for the yellow lines. You will see "Van Accessible" on some of the handicapped signs. You also need the extra space to manipulate the wheelchair and allow room for them to go to the rear of the van and use the magnetic key to close the ramp and the door. It is simple but it does need the space.
I have seen this before. At the Books A Million parking lot you could be forgiven for not noticing the lines because they were so faded. Not so here. I can imagine the driver just moving up and seeing space and deciding to just park there for a moment or two... or they honestly didn't notice because they were so frazzled at the end of a work day.. whatever it was the wrong place to park and if Ginny had had her van parked there she would have had to call the police to move her van so she could get back in. That might have resulted in a ticket and a fine for Ms Parking Lot Piggy. Thanks for listening.
