Cumulus Farm Views - Photos by Bob Kelly

The last two days have given us bright sunshine, cumulus clouds, and today they puffed up to near thunderhead quality. The contrast of the sky, the clouds, and the beautiful farmland of Iowa is something I enjoy seeing, as it takes me back to my boyhood farm days, and it gets me out of Ames so I can SEE the horizon. The fresh air, the scent of clover, the wisp of breezes, accompanied by the repetitive sound of Meadow Larks....is food for the soul!
It felt so good to see this view, inhale the sweet Iowa farm air, and recall the simple days of growing up on a farm.
The twin silos and farm buildings are highlighted by the sun to the west and the impressive sky in the background.
This hog confinement complex is perched atop a hill giving the pampered pigs inside a nice view of the countryside when they look out. It is a top of the line facility for hogs....could it be hog heaven? Hmmmmm!
In a few weeks you will not be able to see the soil between the rows, as the corn grows taller and the leaves overlap.

Here is a wide angle view of the farm landscape, that was stitched together from ten separate vertical images. The expanse of the landscape is impressive, and you would have loved to have been there to drink in the view.
These corn plants are up to nearly six inches in height and are well placed as behind them on the horizon is the Swanson Grain Elevator and the Lincolnway Energy ethanol plant just west of Nevada, Iowa. This corn crop may end up in the grain elevator or could be converted into ethanol to help fuel vehicles.
