Bipartisan

I was on my way somewhere today and I had the radio on and heard the word bipartisan.  It upset me. I got a crawly feeling on hearing it.... and I decided in my mind that bipartisan was a dirty word.

Mr. Obama, there is nothing wrong with being partisan.  I am a partisan for the values of the Democratic Party. No apologies.  I believe in taking care of people and in getting out of the war business and all of the other things which the party stands for.  And I believe in protecting the environment and getting men out of women's business. I believe in equal rights for everyone and for the ability of my friends to make a commitment and marry one another - even if they are both the same sex.   I am a liberal and I am not ashamed of it.  And I want a president who ran on those values and continues to believe in them and is not ashamed to stand up for them.  I don't mind at all that the other party cannot come along. They are wrong. Their policies have failed and they deserve to be shut out of the decisions if they can't agree to work together.  Their definition of bipartisan is "do it my way"  -  Well they are just wrong and we do not need to consider them.
And then I came home and was directed to this column by Paul Krugman (who I would like to see run for office.) Here is a snippet.
"right now “bipartisan” is usually code for assembling some conservative Democrats and ultraconservative Republicans — all of them with close ties to the wealthy, and many who are wealthy themselves — and having them proclaim that low taxes on high incomes and drastic cuts in social insurance are the only possible solution.
This would be a corrupt, undemocratic way to make decisions about the shape of our society even if those involved really were wise men with a deep grasp of the issues."

So that is my rant for today.  'nuff said.
