Free Electricity in Ames

Click photo to embiggen
Skies south west of Ames lit up with multiple lightning bolts tonight about 9:45 PM. I only saw one bolt as I worked with the camera, but I got four for the price of one! It is now summer in Iowa, and most likely skies will be lit up like this rather often.

I miss midwestern thunderstorms very much.
I would move back just to have them.

Hi James...

I was about 1.5 miles east of the Gilbert corner on a gravel road, with the camera pointing to the SW back to Ames. The radio towers are about 2-3 miles SW of the Towers dorms at ISU.
The lightning bolts were at least 20 miles away from me, and I was using a 200mm telephoto lens, and also cropped the image slightly.
