Two Movies

One was a sprawling cinematic triumph with action, one of the sexiest men alive, a beautiful heroine set in a sprawling country and non-stop adventure, the other was Australia.

Actually Quantum of Solace and Australia were both wonderful films.

I have always enjoyed the 007 movies and this one was a return to the ones I enjoyed the most. Craig is a great Bond. IMHO and he brings a depth to the character that was lacking in some of the previous incarnations. Wikipedia has an excellent article about it here.

Australia was really a western set in Australia at the start of WWII. A noblewoman (Nichole Kidman) from England comes to Australia and has to help the "Drover" (Hugh Jackman) drive the cattle to market. They are helped by a small boy who is half white and have aboriginal. The movie shows a lot of the social
problems of the country and there is a lot to think about. But the star of the film is really the country of Australia. You should not wait to rent this one on DVD. It really should be seen on the big screen. This is a magical land which has inspired many mystical stories.

To me the aboriginal dreaming and walkabouts are exciting and interesting aspects of this extraordinary country. I remember seeing other films set in Australia and the magnitude of the country has always kept me in awe. None more than this. I highly recommend it.

I did find a Blog about the movie at Holtie's House and you can read an Australian's "take" on the film here.

If you haven't seen the films you are in for a treat. If you have feel free to leave your review in the comments.
