2012 Iowa State Fair, Some Different Views - Photos by Bob Kelly

The 2012 Iowa State Fair has set a record this year for being the fair with the mildest and best weather for decades, and if you have been there and enjoyed it, you were far more comfortable this year than maybe ever before.  There were all the usual, wonderful, fun, and nostalgic things at the fair, which have been posted here before, so this year I found a few things were different.  The quiet of the cool morning showed a gentlemen watering the bright orange Canna plants in front of the balcony of the Cultural Center.  I suspect he has watered them lots of times in the last few months!  Fortunately they and all the plantings at the fair were beautiful.

Just north of the Little Hands on the Farm exhibit was a wonderful Bengal Tigers show, one of the many free attractions at the fair.  The tigers were beautiful, well cared for, and provided lots of excitement and learning for viewers of all ages.  Here is a grouping of four images that capture the essence of their show.

West of the Jacobsen Events Center was a BMX Bike Show that was incredible.   These are the stunt bikes that allow some slightly crazy but very talented riders to do on a bike what some do on skateboards, either of which is dangerous in my book!  The photos show several high action moves that were good tests for my new zoom lens, with the help of a fast shutter speed.  Enjoy!

As if all the above is not enough, at the Elwell Center on the west side of the fair grounds there was a giant chocolate moose at least ten feet high, that was made of real chocolate!  It sure smelled better than the last moose I was near, but there were no chunks bitten out of it, at least not yet!
