Sunday Salute XXVI

From Wikipedia
Ellen Lee DeGeneres born January 26, 1958) is an American stand-up comediantelevision host and actress. She hosts the syndicated talk show The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
...
DeGeneres started performing stand-up comedy at small clubs and coffee houses. By 1981 she was the emcee at Clyde's Comedy Club in New Orleans. DeGeneres cites Woody Allen and Steve Martin as her main influences at this time. In the early 1980s she began to tour nationally, being named Showtime's Funniest Person in America in 1982. In 1986 she appeared for the first time on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, who likened her to Bob Newhart. When Carson invited her over for an onscreen chat after her performance, she became the first comedienne in the show's history to be treated this way.

Sometimes I like Ellen, sometimes she drives me nuts. Basically I salute her for her courage and also for her "niceness"  -  I don't always watch her show but when I do I am entertained. I also see incredible stories of the things she organizes for people.  i.e. the elementary school in Las Vegas that she adopted and has given thousands of dollars to which helps the children.

Ellen does a lot of charity work.  One of the causes that I particularly like is The Gentle Barn.  Because of this and because she is a genually nice person I salute Ellen.

For me, it's that I contributed, ... That I'm on this planet doing some good and making people happy. That's to me the most important thing, that my hour of television is positive and upbeat and an antidote for all the negative stuff going on in life.

Sometimes you can't see yourself clearly until you see yourself through the eyes of others.

The only thing that scares me more than space aliens is the idea that there aren't any space aliens. We can't be the best that creation has to offer. I pray we're not all there is. If so, we're in big trouble.

Sometimes when I am driving I get so angry at inconsiderate drivers that I want to scream at them. But then I remember how insignificant that is, and I thank God that I have a car and my health and gas. That was phrased wrong - normally you wouldn't say, thank God I have gas.

Don't give advice. It will come back and bite you in the [butt]. Don't take anyone's advice. So, my advice to you is to be true to yourself and everything will be fine.

Some of the most devastating things that happen to you will teach you the most.

When I was younger I thought success was something different. I thought, " When I grow up, I want to be famous. I want to be a star. I want to be in movies. When I grow up I want to see the world, drive nice cars. I want to have groupies." But my idea of success is different today. For me, the most important thing in your life is to live your life with integrity and not to give into peer pressure, to try to be something that you're not. To live your life as an honest and compassionate person. To contribute in some way.
