A great teacher!

This morning I made a pilgrimage to my old elementary school to help present the Arcadia Lodge Masonic Teacher of the Year certificate to Charli Hanway the Kindergarten teacher.

This program is sponsored by the Grand Lodge of Iowa and each Lodge in Iowa is asked to choose a Local Masonic Teacher of the Year and then they submit material to the Grand Lodge and an Iowa Masonic Teacher of the Year is selected. Our Lodge selected Mrs. Hanway as our Teacher of the Year and in my opinion it was an excellent choice. I taught with Charli at Edwards for many years before I retired and while we were at opposite ends of the building I always found her to be an extremely competent professional.

We made the presentation in front of her students and they were all excited for her. It was obvious that she was a caring, loving teacher. She will be honored at a dinner at the Lodge later in the year.

The Masonic Lodge has always supported public education and this is one of the ways they show that schools and public education are important to them. Congratulations Mrs. Hanway, It is a well deserved honor!
