Sloppy Sunday Ruminations

November weather - Chilly, rainy and mist. We don't have the lake but the picture kind of reminds me of what today is like. Gad, I am blogging about the weather. I swore I would never do that. My only excuse is that I am still tired from yesterday.

I actually fell asleep when I was posting the service for the Christian Science Blog. I am no longer a member but I still have a great respect for the spirituality involved and I do the blog for the Church here in Ames. They actually have a service on Thanksgiving and if you aren't doing anything else it is one of the nicest services and most churches don't have them on Thanksgiving morning. 10:00 AM - 123 Sixth street.

Fred Borgen wrote a letter to the Editor about the psychic pleasure of giving. It was in Saturday's paper and of course it is about giving to United Way. The whole idea of the pleasure of giving is a recurring theme of mine. I enjoy giving to people and the other day I went to Borders and bought some things I plan to give as gifts. It is fun for me to give things to people and I enjoy it very much. I didn't ever think of it as a psychic pleasure but it is and so if you tell me I can't give you something you may be taking away my psychic pleasure. How about that?

I got an e-mail with this picture in it. It was entitled, " The answer to the question." I am sure you know what the question is. I am glad to have the answer. I had often wondered about that very question. (g) Along with it came another question: Is the Pope Catholic? I am still wondering about that one.

I was invited to dinner at friends today. I really enjoyed myself. I had not realized just how good home cooked food was. And they are both cooks - professional cooks. A wonderful salad started the meal off, followed by pot roast with vegetables and topped off with pumpkin pie with real whipped cream. This doesn't even mention the home made bread. It was wonderful but the best part (aside from not having to eat restaurant food) was the good conversation. It ranged from religion to politics. Of course we are all democrats so there wasn't much argument. It is hard to discuss politics with republicans. Anyway it was a real treat. Since Ginny moved I hardly ever cook. Not much in the house to eat. I like going out to eat as it gets me out of the house. The dogs are only so much company and I need to be around people. But this was super fine and I won't have to eat any supper.

I am still hearing good things from people about how much they enjoyed the York Rite Festival yesterday. One person in particular did an outstanding job. I can't mention him by name but he knows who he is. I am proud to know him and enjoy very much watching him work. His ritual is delivered the way I think ritual should be delivered. In an understandable, meaningful way so that you really get something out of it. I wish everyone could do their work that way.

Jon took Max out in the rain. Max was gone when I got home. It is good for them to go out for their walks. I should do something like that but I get my exercise typing and turning the pages of the books I read.

I went to see Beowulf on Friday afternoon. I didn't really enjoy it as much as I thought I might. For one thing it was not a film as mcuh as it was a computer generated cartoon and I really prefer where you see real people. The cartoon aspect of the movie was kind of jerky to me. It was well done, however and if you like that sort of thing I recommend it. It was also kind of slow in places. Oh well, you win some and you lose some. At least Angela Jolee was one of the stars.

Beowuf is the oldest surviving piece of literature in the English language.

Finally this video which Butch Z. just sent me about a relationship between a crow and a kitten. It just goes to show that there is no such thing as a "natural" enemy. enjoy! Hugs, j

Hmmm, crows and cats. Maybe there's hope yet for those #%^& democrats and the $%^&* republicans. Of course, I would worry if that crow learned to trust ALL cats. He may end up as lunch.

And as for Beowulf, I just read the novelization of the movie. Interesting premise, although an enormous change in the basis of the story. The writing sucked, though. I am back reading the original (OK, OK, a translation into modern English) for the 4th time or so. You can tell I like this story because I named my dog Beowulf. Of course he goes by Beow, who is actually a totally different character in the story. I do look forward to seeing the movie though. Angelina naked and coated with gold. Yummy. That is like BBQ sauce on ribs. (No, there's more, but I won't go there.)
