Saturday Potpouri

pot·pour·ri
Function: noun
Etymology: French pot pourri, literally, rotten pot Date: 1749
1 : a mixture of flowers, herbs, and spices that is usually kept in a jar and used for scent
2 : a miscellaneous collection

The definition probably doesn't really fit this post but I am using it. First there were two delicious surprises for me yesterday. I found this box of turtles inside the door yesterday. I know who gave them to me. Dorothy H. She used to worry about giving me her delicious homemade turtles when she found out that I was a diabetic. I assured her that I knew how to ration them so my blood sugar would not spike I know I have to be careful and so I don't eat a lot of rice, pasta and carbohydrates. I do, however, eat one piece of chocolate a day. so these will last me for several days. Gosh they are good and I am grateful.
The next most delicious surprise was a box that came in the mail. I was visiting with my friend Kurt on the bluetooth as I drove home. (Postmorteming the Degree last night) and I got home and we kept talking and I mentioned that there was a suspicious box in my mail. "Open it and see what it is." said Kurt. I was a little suspicious as to why he was curious about my mail but I was also so I got out a knife (big one) and opened it. - Inside was a book. Title above. Title page below.

It is Kurt's book. This started out as a paper for Specialis Procer Lodge and he has added to it and done more research and it is available from his web site. He sent it to me as a gift. No one has ever given me a first edition book before and I was surprised, dumbfounded, grateful, and overwhelmed. Kurt has turned into a great friend. If you are an "old" reader of this blog you will know that I don't always have the best of luck with friends. I have a tendency to have a few good friends and sometimes there will be a person who I want to have as one of those close friends who turns out to not like me and I get hurt. That has happened with two guys, (one Mason and one not) within the past couple of years. Kurt and Craig have helped me though this and I believe they are my guardian angels because they give me support and friendship I had been looking for something after my retirement and went through a lot of hurt. These guys are really great Masons and both of them are closer to me that a blood brother could be. I love them and their families... but you know that.

Anyway this book has so many meanings for me. Not only is it a gift from a great friend but it is physical evidence of the value of the Specialis Procer experience. Kurt may have done it if he was not a member of our Lodge but the Lodge needing to have a paper presented certainly played a part in its genesis. - I need to find my thank you notes.

Then the snow. I want you to see the snow on the bush in front of my house (above) and the pile of snow by the driveway. I think it is about 6 feet tall.. We did have a heat wave today. It got up to about 30 degrees. The streets were somewhat slushy.

Aunt Jo and Cousins Randy and Fay who are down for a visit from Alexandria, Minnesota went out to lunch today. We were going to the Gilbert Corner for tenderloins and drove the five miles north to get there. They were closed. Noon on a Saturday and they were closed. Oh well we went to the Cafe instead,

Jo had a Chowder - ("No pictures please - My hair is a mess.")

Fay and Randy both had the Cafe burger which is my favorite hamburger but since I still had half of a hamburger from Centro last night I decided on a bowl of vegetable soup and some sweet potato fries. (I got some bread pudding for dessert - they have great desserts there.)

Wonderful food, wonderful company. A great day. Thanks for stopping by. Someone last night told me I have too many posts on my blog for them to keep up with. Perhaps I should cut back. You probably aren't all that interested any way.

I am reading an excellent book - perhaps more reading and less blogging. What do you think. ARTYAL. Hugs, j-bear
