Jon Sez

Jon is pleased that Bush is leaving office because Iowa will no longer have the reputation of having the worst ex-president in the world. Mr. Hoover moves up one notch on the ladder.

The most memorable moment of GWB's tenure in office

Ah, but Mr. Hoover has been the subject of no little re-examination over the past several decades, and I note that there were forces in place long before his becoming President that led to the Great Depression. Let's say that one should probably read these reassessments before passing judgment.

I nominate Dubya as the worst President ever, followed (and pretty closely) by Andrew Johnson and James Buchanan.

Mr. Hoover was not our greatest President, but I think he was far from being our worst--in fact, many of the innovations of the Roosevelt era actually originated with Hoover, though Congress would not pass them.

(That's what comes from living close to the Hoover library and studying his Presidency...)
