A Poem by Doris Peel
The video reminded me of this poem by Doris Peel which I copied from The Christian Science Monitor years ago.
Couldn't it be
that animals who gambol
on sunlit slopes --
lambs, colts
calves still wobbly
are evidence enough
that Something IS?
For where as it come from
this elation of theirs?
After all
no awards
are being handed out
for the friskiest pair
of kicked up heels
There's not even anyone
to call "Bravo!"
as a new creature
springs, you'd suppose
only this hour from Genesis
One --
bounds in on stiff little legs
from the ground, or goes
without a soul
to tell him how
cantering off on his gala own
So again I ask where has it come from
this pure joy?
Juicing up
from muscle and bone.

I love Doris Peel's poetry and adore this happy dog
sledding on the hill just as though he were made to
do so! And it fits the poem so well. Thank you,
whoever you are!
