Bob Writes:
One of the first to Iowa woodland flowers to show itself this year in the Ames, Iowa area is the Round-lobed Hepatica. This flower is of the Buttercup family, likes to grow in woodland areas coming up through last year's leaves, and it is 4-6 inches in height. The flower size is about 3/4 inch across and comes in shades of pink, lavender, blue, or white. Here are a few specimens that were found at Inez Grove Park in Ames, just NW and down the hill a bit from the Shagbark Hickory Shelter. Go see them while they are here, and enjoy!!
