Tonight Arcadia had a Third degree for Tony Dugan. Tony is a great guy and we are very happy to have him in Lodge. He is going to be a real asset for the Lodge and is already discussing Masonry with some of his friends.
We had a guest from New Mexico come to visit us. He was in Iowa for a wedding and called this afternoon to find out about visiting. One of the advantages of Masonry is that you can travel all over the world and find Masons. Brother Goodman has invited us all to visit his Lodge (Temple No. 6 in Albuquerque)
One of the things that we like to do is to see if they have the same ritual that we do and what are some of the little differences. We are pretty similar and when he mentioned that they were first chartered by the Grand Lodge of Missouri it became clear why we were as similar. Iowa was also first chartered by the Grand Lodge of Missouri. (There is a web site that shows the origins of the various Grand Lodges if you are interested here.)
The other event at Lodge was the honor I had in presenting Brother Rollen Phillips with his Gold Honor Award from the Iowa York Rite College.
The Gold Honor Award may be given to any Mason for unselfish and faithful service in any branch of the York Rite. The recipient need not to be a member of a College, nor is it required that he be a member of all the other York Rite bodies.
David Baker also received the award earlier. Both of these men are very deserving of this honor.
Being a Mason and associating with men like this is truly an honor and I am so very grateful that my mother said to me "you might enjoy the Masons." She knew what she was talking about. Not only does it expand my friendships but it also gives me something productive to do.
Thanks for stopping by. ARTYAL. Hugs. j-bear
