While traveling in South West Minnesota I discovered two very stately court houses built in the early 1900s, and they are fully restored and in use today, as functional pieces of architectural history. The first shown below is located in Luverne, Minnesota, in Rock County. The building to the right of the court house was formerly the county jail, built in the same time period, but has now been restored and transformed into
an incredible photographic gallery showcasing the work of Jim Brandenburg, a renowned National Geographic photographer from Luverne. The two floors of the modern gallery display over 200 of his incredible images of nature subjects. His work and their displays is giving me incentives to begin working on my own!
The court house of Pipestone County, located in the city of
Pipestone, Minnesota is shown below. Both of the court houses are made with the characteristic red stone that is quarried in this part of the state. Pipestone is also the home of the Pipestone National Monument, a beautiful naturally preserved show piece in honor of Native Americans for all of us to enjoy. Look for more photos of the Pipestone Monument later this week.
