Statement from Kevin Stow - Write in Candidate for School Board

This is from my friend who would like folks in Ames to know about Kevin for School Board.

There are 3 open positions and only 2 candidates on the ballot. Kevin Stow will need to be a WRITE IN !!!

Qualifications:
Human Resources & Board Governance Professional (Assistant Vice President of Human Resources and Governance, Iowa State University Foundation - since 2002)
Three children attend Ames schools: Kris (Junior), Betsy (Freshman), Kendall (8th)
Spouse, Shelley, educational assistant in the 6th grade resource room at Ames Middle School
Trustee, Ames Public Library Board of Trustees (appointed 2009)
Director, Ames Public Library Foundation (appointed 2009)
PPEL Committee (2008-2009) Ames Community Schools
Ames Community Schools Facility Review Committee (2007-2008) [The school board ignored our recommendations.]
Former Director, Greater Iowa Credit Union (2005-2008)
I understand personnel and financial issues. I understand facility issues as I have oversight of a 36,000 sq. ft. facility and understand maintenance and upkeep issues.

Why am I running? I certainly don't have all of the answers but there are several issues that are of grave concern that I do not see the board addressing in a constructive manner.

Budget reductions and deficits
Space allocation within buildings
Academic watch list
Vacant buildings and land
Relationships with the city and university - addressing mutual issues
Working in isolation
We need good teachers who are supported to provide a quality world class curriculum. In my HR role I see individuals all the time who cannot write a decent cover letter or know how to create an appropriate telephone message. Individuals are often unprepared to have a job interview let alone meet the demands of a career. We cannot keep young people in Iowa and grow our economy if we do not provide a solid foundation for the youth of Ames.
