A man is not just if he carries a matter by violence: no, he who distinguishes both right and wrong, who is learned and leads others, not by violence, but by law and equity, and who is guarded by the law and the intelligent, he is called just.

The Dhammapada 19:256-257

You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against any of your people but you shall love your neighbor as yourself.

Leviticus 19:18
Judaism & Christianity

When you think about it this book of the Bible is full of things that people do not do. I am not going into everything but it seems to be full of impossible rules and regulations and it makes one wonder just why it is still in there. I mean we don't take people out and stone them because they break a rule in Leviticus. Loving your neighbor and not taking vengeance and leading by law and equity are wonderful goals. Of course the statement implies that you do love yourself.

I think that it is sometimes difficult for people to love themselves when their religion continually tells them how rotten they are. Religion of this sort is not that which uplifts but which causes violence and self-degradation. I mean when you are continually told that you are a sinner and fall short of God's glory how can you love yourself let alone your neighbor. Thankfully the Christ came and delivered a new covenant and taught us how to love and invalidated all of the unkindly rules of the old testament and reaffirmed the one great commandment - that we love one another.

However for a religion of Love a lot of violence has been committed in its name and to me that is unfortunate and sad. Have a wonderful Sunday and week. j

These are choices of poor pitiful humans who often make very poor choices thus punishing themselves and others.

God doesn't need to do anything to us, we do a good job without Him.
